A blog post from Texas Outdoor Writers Association’s President:
We’re in full gear, getting ready for the 2018 TOWA Fall Stampede Barbecue & Wild-Game Cook Off, Rodeo, Shooting Competition, Ride & Drive, and Live Music!
Last year’s event created so much excitement that everyone is jumping aboard. The first thing we did was coordinate the event dates with the International Barbeque Cookers Association to bring in more cooking teams. Then we made sure our event didn’t conflict with the Truck Rodeo in Marble Falls. By luck, Oct. 19-21 also fit well with the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s schedule.
These preparations should garner greater attendance at this year’s Stampede. New this year is the TEXAS CHALLENGE, a long-range rifle competition coordinated by L3 Outdoors. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will manage the sporting clays, and the Texas Historical Shootist Society will handle the pistol competition. The Lone Star Bow Hunters Association is taking care of the walk-through archery course, another first for this event. The Texas State Rifle Association also has promised to bring the “steel” for one of their youth shooting programs.
We’ve booked live music and the local kids are ready to rodeo again. It’s going to a tasty and entertaining day. We also look forward to more media participation and a bigger outpouring of spectators and local support.
Meanwhile, TOWA has been busy coordinating with students who are volunteering to start TOWA Chapters in multiple state universities, while pumping up participation from many of the 60 hunting and fishing conservation groups throughout Texas and the U.S.
We look forward to visiting with you, and we welcome your valuable input and support.
Please give me a holler and let’s get rolling.
