HOG CONTEST, Could this work
Was wondering since LSBA has a buck contest, could a hog contest work also. Was thinking it could be something simple, just biggest tusk. That way, noone has to find a scale large enough to weigh the pig or where to go and get it weighed. Biggest tusk, length out from the gum line to the end, and circumference at the base added together. Would have to think to get a accurate measurement, the head would still need to be in a fresh state, either unskinned or skinned. Maybe a jacket for fisrt place and small sculpture of a boar hog, for second, a plaque and a sculpture and for third, a sculpture of a boar hog. I know we have this already set up for the TBBR, but this is a little different. Could run seasonal with the Big Buck contest, or go yearly. March 1 - last day in Feb. What do you think???????

Sounds like it could be fun too me. It would also give those of us a chance who might never get to hunt the type of ranch where the largest bucks roam.
Ron has a new scoring category for TBBR based on skull and tusk measurements. If we could come up with a reasonable tusk only category for jacket entries it might work. It would need to be close enough that real big ones could win, but also where the jacket entry fee would cover the jacket cost in most cases.
I think the jacket should say. LSBA HAWG!
What do you think?

Sounds like an outstanding idea!! I'm going to scout/hunt a new area (public land) this weekend (hopefully) where a big boar has been spotted. If we are going to do this I will need to hold off harvesting him till the contest starts... 8)

I let is slip, ops: I need to be more careful about this don't I. If I knew how to post a pic, I would let you see it, but I cannot kill it for at least another year, cause he broke off one of his tusk again. It will take him awhile to grow it back to match the other side, but then he will have that side broke off by then also.

Sounds like a FUN idea! Bobster...shoot me the pic and I'll edit it into your post above.
PICS added above ^
Heck...just take him to your local Bed Liner shop and have them shoot a coat of Rhino Liner on his tusks, stake him to a tree and feed him nothing but soft foods till the hunt and you'll be a slam dunk to win 8)

Oh, sweetheart...I'm telling Hunter about this thread. Bobster brought Porkchop home when he was a wee little piglet and we bottle feed him. He was the meanest little pig. Everytime you tried to give him the bottle, he would go for your hand. Now, he is Bobster's baby.

I hear ya'll !!!!
(I have been looking for a project to keep me busy?)
I have been giving it some thought and will discuss it at the next E>C. meeting for more input.
As mentioned above, I have added a new category for including the "cutters". It is "Tush Hog" and forms and instructions are available on the TBBR website for downloading.
