Looks pretty good, I have one that I bought unfinished one time and it is still unfinished and sitting in the closet. I think that would make someone a nice little project and bow. Bob

I think the price he's asking is a very reasonable offer.

I'd ask for 40#, then back with snake skins or maybe rawhide... Hickory works great, but it tends to splinter a bit in my experience. The backing with keep this in check.

50# or greater, I'd get some boo and back it with that.

He took my offer, $50. This will be my first bow to finish, I may be asking for some help when I'm ready to finish it. Tracy, what is boo? I asked for 50-60# bow.

		Bamboo, or Tonkin cane; same-same
I think 3 Rivers carries it. Or, if you know where to find it you can cut your own for free....

The boo will add to the draw weight. Not sure how much.

Now, you can use hickory by itself, but as I said, I've known it to get splinters in it. Also, hickory will develop string follow, so you'll have to let it down after shooting. The boo will help this a little, the other backings even less. I think rawhide would be good for countering set too, but not sure how much. Linen and sinew will do what the wood tells it to do, but will guard against the splintering.

There are those who are much more knowledgeable about this than I am. Seek them out. Bob Sarrels would be a good mind to pick. I HIGHLY recommend him. He's good folks. ..and a great bowyer to boot.

Use Helmsman's Spar Urethane. Works great. Real simple to use. Smooth it on thin, let it set, sand smooth with extra fine grit sand paper, clean off the dust and add another coat. Repeat for a total of about 5 - 7 coats. You can add more if you want. Really, you just want to weather seal it. I like the "Clear Satin" finish, but it also comes in a medium and high gloss as well.

Again, talk to Bob Sarrels.
