Default Redeemed My Pledge

I was getting worried. The end of February was drawing near and I hadn't had a chance to go hunting yet. Finally a chance to get out to the lease and see if I could bag a hog for the Ham for the Hungry event.

No luck Monday night, and even though I had I tried two stalks on Tuesday morning all I saw were curly tails disappearing into the brush, along with oink, oinks that I swear sounded like Ha, Ha.

Tuesday night was my last chance and I'd about given up. The sun was down and I even got down off of my stand and walked out to the road. Seventy yards up and heading in my direction were a pack of porkers. So...I got back up on the stand. Finally, they got to me. Most of them small, but one about 80 lbs. She'd run in then spook off. Run in then spook off. She even zipped by my first shooting window through the brush, but settled in at the second one. I drew, but now I have two problems. First is that she's turned away from me. Second is that it's gotten so dark that even though I can see my Tritium sight pin plainly, it's hard to get it lined up through my peep. I finally figured I had it lined up pretty well going by the sows outline, and as she turned broadside, I let the arrow go.

SQUEAL, SQUEAL, SQUEAL. Yep, another spine shot. Wish I could say that I'd planned it that way, but everyone knows I'm not that good a shot. But I had my pig. In fact I almost had 10 others as the rest of the herd, kept circling my stand growling and grunting like they wanted a piece of me. I thought of trying for a second, but no clear shot.

Anyway that pig got dropped off at the Teen Challenge location in San Antonio. So I made my pledge. All you other folks from the EC have through this weekend to get yours. Unless you're good enough (like me) to hit the spine, I'd recommend going for a heart or lung shot. :P

Congrats on the pig Tomme. Nothing I would like better than to go hunting this weekend, but more important things need attention. I bet they will still be hungry next month, I will try to feed some then.

Good shooting Tomme. Just keep on spineing them and you wont have to track. I'll take that shot over any other available to avoid cactus and thick brush.
