LSBA Pop-Up 3D a Huge Success!
The LSBA was asked by Basspro to be a part of their "Archery Weekend" and we gladly accepted. We hosted a pop-up 3D tournament in their state of the art range and we also had a booth setup outside for the kids baloon shoot.
I had the pleasure to work with some of the finest people involved with the organization and without them it would not have been possible. To start with, Dena has more energy than my 4 year old and without her organizational skills it would have been a nightmare. Rather than listing all the names here I will wait and let Dena do it so I don't get in trouble for forgetting someone\clipart{biggrin}
The qualifying rounds for the pop-up ran from 9am until 8pm and in that time we had 114 rounds shot. Being my first year to do an event like this I wasn't sure what to expect, and when it was all said and done it exceeded anything that I could have imagined. For the 11 hours on Saturday there was never a slow moment in the range.
We ended up having 3 divisions: 17 and Under, Traditional, and Compound Amateur. There was an Advanced division, but only 3 signed up so all the shooters agreed to do away with the class. The top 10 shooters in each division on Saturday came back on Sunday for the Finals.
We started out with the 17 and Under Division and let me tell you these kids can shoot. There were several of these youngsters that consistantly shot better scores than the adults all weekend long. The award for First Place was a $75 Basspro Gift Card, Framed Certificate, Belt Buckle, LSBA T-shirt, Keychain, Pin, and a few other prizes. All 3 top places recieved the same except for a smaller denomination gift card.
Our biggest turnout for the weekend was the Traditional crowd. Most of these guys shot numerous rounds trying to reach the top seed, but the score that Pete Pieper shot held strong all day. The awards for First place in the Traditional Division was a $270 Basspro Gift Card, Framed Certificate, Belt Buckle, Key Chain, Pin, LSBA T-shirt, and a few other prizes.
The Compound shooters had a little harder time than the Traditional guys. The targets were coming faster than they could get their releases on the string, or even worse if they had a d-loop. The First prize for them was a $220 Basspro Gift Card, Framed Certificate, Belt Buckle, Key Chain, Pin, LSBA T-shirt, and a few other prizes.
I was so busy both days I wasn't able to take any pics other than the ones I posted. Hopefully some of the other volunteers will have a few more pixels to post on this thread. I am looking forward to having another Tournament at Basspro in the future.
