Mike~
The EC and I agree with you that David and Christy Stroup have been invaluable to the organization and 3-D! They have done a tremendous job in building our 3-D program back to where it is today. They truly will be missed!
The Executive Council was surprised, shocked and saddened to receive David's resignation, especially so close to our first shoot. However, the shoot at Texins Archery will be held this Sunday. The LSBA EC is working hard to insure a quality shoot will be held despite difficult circumstances. We owe it to our members!
Neither the LSBA EC nor any of the individual Officers or Reps asked for David's resignation and were more than pleased with the successful 3-D program, which he and Christy have been running.
I am unsure of the meaning of your last sentence, but the Executive Council does listen to the membership and are working hard to make the LSBA a better organization for all members and Texas bowhunters. Our Executive Council members have been scrambling since David's resignation to make sure all things are in order and available for Sunday's shoot. We will have at least three if not more of our Officers/Reps and others there to assist our members and Texins Archery Club in the registration and success of this shoot.
The article to which you are referring was written by David Stroup and appears in the current issue of the magazine. Editing was necessary on the original letter and a few words were added, which
incorrectly indicated:
#1. David had missed shoots in the last several years for which he had to rely on Christy to run them (David has not missed a shoot)
#2. David was considering Saturday shoots to accommodate more people. (David was not considering Saturday shoots)
Despite difficult circumstance with working out of State, David has gone above and beyond the call of duty and made every shoot since becoming 3-D Director, including a 1500 mile drive from Mississippi to Abilene. Thank you for your efforts, David! However, because of work obligations this year, David did not believe he was going to be able to make every shoot and would possibly need assistance from Christy and other EC members. This was discussed at our last EC meeting.
Although, Saturday shoots were discussed at the EC meeting because several of our members had asked Officers or Reps about them, David was not considering Saturday shoots because they would be difficult or impossible for him to attend. However, because members had asked about them, a poll was placed on our website, which asked for members opinions for their choice of days on which 2012 3-D Shoots would be held.
Our Editor and I have apologized to David and have indicated to him that there would be a correction in the next magazine and on the website.
I have put in bold the two changes which were objected to by David and listed as the reasons for resignation. These are two important issues to David. It is unfortunate that a misunderstanding occurred.
Here is the letter as it appears in the magazine:
Quote:
Hello to all of you! I hope this letter finds you and yours well and happy after a successful hunting season. Before I get started, I would like to extend a special thank you to my wife for her hard work and dedication she put in with last year’s tournaments and filling in for me when I wasn’t able to attend the shoots. I couldn’t have done it without her. Thank you, Christy!
The 2011 tournament season is starting up. With that being said, our local clubs need our help. More and more archery clubs are failing every year due to lack of participation. We can stop this by going out and shooting at the local level. Get out there and support our locals clubs! I guarantee you will have a great time. The LSBA 3-D circuit needs your support as well. Efforts are being made to have shoots set up that everyone has a chance to attend. With the help of members like you, we will try to schedule some shoots on Saturdays. Without your help, we won’t be successful. Contact your LSBA regional representative or me to find out how you can help with the setup of our 3-D tournaments. On a side note concerning the tournament’s, each season Regional Champions are crowned and awarded with a custom jacket with our logo on the back and the shooter class description, as well as the winner’s name embroidered on the front.
The 2010 State Shoot was held at Tejas Archery Club in Corpus Christi, Texas and went very well. Kudos and many thanks go out to Robert Garcia and the fine group of helpers that set up the range. Thanks to everyone who participated in last year’s State competition and congratulations to those taking top honors!
The 2011 schedule is set and posted in this issue of LSBA Magazine, as well as the LSBA website under 3-D info. I urge you to come out and shoot with us. Bring the kids. Bring the grandkids and enjoy some 3-D fun! For those of you who had the misfortune of missing or wounding an animal last season, I will guarantee you will become a much better shot if you will attend all of the regional shoots. Next hunting season you won’t have to face that sinking feeling we all get upon release of a bad shot. If you miss in 2011 you can blame it on the animal, because you will be a finely tuned machine. You and your equipment will become one at the closing of 3-D season.
3-D shoots are a fun way to spend time with family and friends. It’s a great opportunity to get those youngsters out of the living room and in the outdoors. Many kids today don’t know how to utilize the outdoors for entertainment. It is our duty to see that they never lose sight of what has been given to them. The outdoors is a gift from our Creator. God Bless each of you and I hope to see you out there on the tournament trail.
