Default Fudd '08 - East Texas (Tawakoni WMA)...

Who's interested in having a little fun in May?

smilewithrabbit.JPG

There is a Rabbit Season running May 1-31 at the Tawakoni WMA and I am planning to go the first weekend (May 3 & 4)...and I'm taking Liam (6) & Jadyn(4) with me.

Anyone interested in joining us for a youth bunny hunt?

It'll be well worth the cost of the AHP for this weekend alone...but I may take them back more than just the one time.

There's primitive camping at the Pawnee Inlet area where I plan to go but since we are taking my little Princess with us we may need to look for a cabin or screened enclosure near the hunting area. There used to be a place (named Windpoint Park I think) near there with screaned shelters and cabins but that was years ago...I'll check into this more.

For me, this is going to be more about teaching the kids how to carry a longbow through the woods without getting a low-hanging branch caught-up in the string, but serious wabbit hunters are welcome too.

I'll check and see what the grandkids are doing that weekend. Wind Point has booth cabins and shelters.

Roger, the idea behind the "Fudd" hunt was not primarily for kids. If you just want to go yourself, that's what it was based on. (That is if that's what Joey's building on) Timm Getts wanted to stretch out his "trad legs" and I said, come on over, we've got room to prowl. Joey brought Liam. Buff brought Chunky (someone needed to, 'at boy needs supervision ). And Timm had to work and didn't make it.

Liam's one sharp little man. The boy LOVES it.

The rabbit hunting was an idea I had to loosen up after the tension of hunting deer. You know? With deer or hogs you have to hunt with a high level of stealth. Rabbits don't care and its a blast trying to chase one of them down or sneak in for a still shot.

Its a great thing for kids because the draw weight doesn't apply and they don't have to sit still. I recommend it. But, just because you're not a kid or have kids, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

Joey, I hope y'all get a good showing. If it weren't for several other things coming up in May, I'd be there myself. One, I've got a trip to Freer to attend to. Hogs, rabbits and bobcats man! YeeHaw!!

Roger, you don't have to bring a kid....but you do have to bring the Bob Lee!

Not that a compound wouldn't be welcomed...just that you'd have to bring your recurve.

I need help from a GW (Bob) or AHP holder...

I just noticed that it says (Shotgun Only) next to the May (squirell, rabbit, hare, coyote and furbearer) season at Tawakoni...does that mean no bows? Or does the lesser-weapon concept apply and this is only limiting firearm use to shotguns?

May have to make a last minute change of venue here...DOH!

Thanks Losthawg wish you could make it. I took Jadyn on a trial run this weekend...we had a blast. I'll post some pics here later today.

Tinman, I just talked with a friend of mine, GW Dale Moses which talked to GW Dale Waters and confirmed that you can hunt with a bow for the little bunnies. Archery is open year round, unless otherwise stated. Hope this helps, so now get them little ones out and start practising. May is just around the corner. Bob
