Haven't seen anything on anyone's websites about the National Forest Service Supervisor, Fred Salinas' decision to
CLOSE the Sam Houston National Forest and portions of Davy Crockett. Portions of Angelina, and Sabine are closed as well. Go to the following website for more information:

Mr. Salinas' phone number is 936-639-8506. Contact him to express your concerns with our inability to utilize our WMA hunting permits which most of us have already paid for, not to mention all the preparations that we've made for opening day of bow season!!

We have made contact with several Forest Service employees with results. Since our phone calls, portions of the forests
have been opened for this weekend. Your phone calls are IMPORTANT. Let these people know what you want from your national forests. Hurricane damage is NOT relevent to a hunter's ability to manage the terrain. Fallen/falling trees, swollen creeks, deepened ravines, etc. are ALWAYS a consideration when hunting in the forest. WHAT IS KEEPING US OUT? Once the main roads are cleared, we should be allowed back in. In fact, we will HELP CLEAR the roads if allowed to have access to our hunting area of choice. We must be vocal or these forests may remain closed for the duration of the entire hunting season. ACT NOW, bow hunting season is only a few days away!!
