Default Laminated Birch Shafts

Anyone ever build any arrows from these shafts? I've got some on order to try out. They are heavier than cedar shafts and stronger, the only problem I have is they will 5/16 diameter for my draw weight. That pretty much means self nocks are out for this set of arrows unless because the lamination makes them strong enough to handle self nocks. I'll try it on the first couple to see, luckily I have a couple of inches to play with on the shafts.

Derek, I am sure you will work through it to make it work for you. Just do not let me talk you into shooting them at a pop up shoot again. Bob

Bob if these work out the way I hope they will be all I shoot from this point on. Besides if you hadn't talked me into shooting, I'd have never known how much fun pop up shoots were.....

Got the first 4 finished today and took them out to see how they shot. They fly really well, but are much heavier than my cedar arrows. Didn't take long to figure them out at 15, then I had to learn to judge for my drop at 20. On thing for sure they hit hard, and penetrate my broadhead target as deep as my compound does. With a little more practice I'll be ready to give them a good testing on the LSBA hunt in a few weeks......

That is sounding like you have them figured out. Post some pics when you get the dozen done. Good luck on the hunt. Bob

Bob, these may be the ticket for that Palmer of yours. You would really get some killer penetration throwing these out of that beast!

I finished the fifth one, but ran out of feathers. The other 7 have everything done but the fletching, so as soon as my order comes in, I'll get them finished and post some pictures.

I'm putting Magnus 125gr 2 blades on 6 and 125gr Woodsman 3 blades on the other 6. As heavy as these shafts are, they should drive these Woodsmans for an easy pass through. Both of the heads are flying very sweet on the ones I've finished, can't wait to see how do on the hunt.

May have to make a order for some, but then I probably would not use them because they would be to pretty to shoot and I would be afraid I would break one. Bob

Well my final review of these shafts is not so good. Though the are very strong and have good weight, keeping them straight is a big issue. Any change in the temperature or humidity and you have to straighten again. This turned into a big problem on the LSBA Fellowship hunt in January. I'd straighten them of an evening then check them before leaving for the stand in the morning. By the time I got ready to nock an arrow you could see that none of them were straight any longer. Had to give up on them and go to carbons for the hunt. So bottom line is I can't recommend them unless you have a climate controlled lease.

Sorry to hear that Derek, they might be good still for 3-D or Pop Up shoots. Bob
