Arrow Cresting

Decided to start doing some dip and cresting on arrows and got all setup about 3 months ago. Been doing a lot of practicing over that time and have finally come up with some designs that I wanted to get some of your thoughts on. The first four are traditional arrows and the last two are for compounds.

Sweet, love the color. I have some custom arrows that are dipped, held up real well.

They all look good but I especially like 1,4 and 6. Dumb question but are the compound ones are they wood or carbon?

Good work, Derek! I like 'em all but the #4 arrows really look sharp! (no pun intended)

bountyhunter 12-14-2010 02:46 PM

Jo these are all old carbon shafts that I'm using to practice on a make examples. That way they don't completely go to waist. I can do the cresting on any shaft for traditional bows and on carbon or aluminum for compounds.

Ray my wife has alread requested a set like #4 but with blue barred feathers with a white splice. I'm going to send you an email later......

Here is one that has been nicknamed "Cotton Candy".

Derek, those are all real nice, you have some mad skills at this type of work. Bob

Derek,
I really like the different color combination on the feathers. How did you accomplish that task or can you order them that way?

bountyhunter 12-15-2010 08:38 AM

Thanks Bob!

Jo I have to splice the two colors together. I don't know of anyone that sales spliced feathers. Here is a video of how I do the splicing if you want to give it a try.

Derek,
Thanks for the information but I am not that talented. Heck, I can not even draw a strsight line even if I use a ruler!!

I could make you some if you let me know what colors and overall feather length you would like.

I've never done any and don't have a fletching jig for them. You are about the forth person to ask me in the last month, so I guess I'd better get setup to do some Flu-flu's.

bountyhunter 12-16-2010 10:38 PM

I found out how to do sprial flu flu's and will make an example tomorrow and post it up.

Tomme 12-16-2010 10:44 PM

Those arrows are really sweet.

And do get on the flu flus. As many arrows as Biggen loses you may be able to fund an extra hunt next year.
