Making a difference one kid at a time...
I compared the Houston TTHA show to the San Antonio show and it had more vendors and a lot more kiddos at the LSBA Youth Archery booth. In San Antonio, we had some mini-breaks; however, in Houston there was just a steady stream, which is a good thing.
At the San Antonio show prior to helping a young girl shoot a bow for the first time, I recall her mom telling me that they were from Birmingham. After talking with her mother, I found out grandma and mom use to shoot but had never gotten around to teaching her how to shoot a bow. Her daughter popped a few balloons and smiled as they left.
On Saturday, I turned around and there was the same youth that I helped in San Antonio. I was surprised to see her at the TTHA show in Houston. Once again, she shot throughout the day. Prior to leaving she said, “I will see you on Sunday.”
Well on Sunday while walking around the show, I ran into the same youth and her mother. Her mom said she was going to pick up her bow again and planned to take her daughter to the Howard Hill Classic next year in Birmingham. Mom was excited about picking up a bow again but knew this time it would be different since she would be sharing the sport with her daughter.
Best of Luck to my Birmingham friends and maybe someday I will see you at the Howard Hill Classic in Birmingham….with a trad bow of course.
