This showed up yesterday and man did Ray (rtread) do a great job. I've been shopping for a medieval back quiver I liked and was also functional. I hadn't found the one I wanted yet, but now I don't have to look any further. Ray took what I liked from a couple different ones and put them together. He says this is his first quiver, but it looks like he has been making them for years. The arrows I just finished for myself really look good in it......;) What do y'all think??

Looking at the pictures, it looks smaller than I remember it! I put a dozen arrows in it right after I cut the leather and it looked like it would hold a lot more than that. Is it big enough, Derek?
Also, like I told Derek, when you look at something you crafted, you see all the boo-boos, the recipient doesn't. I almost started over on it a couple of times.
It'll be good to get those arrows but I know right now I'm going to try to save them for nice. I don't want all those Robin Hoods I'm gonna be getting to mess them up! :D

Ray it is plenty big enough. That dozen arrow are spread out pretty good and there is room enough for another 6 to 12 arrows without problems. If I go through that many arrow in a day it has been either a really good day or a really bad day.

I have a question for those that hunt with a quiver like that. I see Marty (Buff) with his all the time. How do you keep the broadheads sharp in there or from keeping them from touching each other? Bob

Bob I've heard of putting a piece of high density styrofoam in the bottom just like in a on bow quiver. I've never hunted with one (yet) and I've got time to get ready and that might be something I try. If someone has a better method I'd be very interested.

Interesting discussion and something I might want to consider in future quivers. FYI I did put 3 thicknesses of 7 oz. leather discs glued together in the bottom of your quiver, hopefully those sharp tips won't do too much damage.
The broadheads might try to shred the deerskin liner on the insides as they go down.....like I said we can modify if needed. I considered a hard liner but the noise would be a factor....

Ray, I'm sure the bottom is tough enough for the broadheads. Bob was asking how to keep them from coming in contact with each other while in the quiver. With a piece of foam in the bottom you could stick the broadheads in the foam so they didn't make contact or dull each other. Also while hunting it would help keep the arrows quiet as you move about. Wood arrows are quieter than carbons, man carbons can make some noise as the hit each other. Of course that would really only be needed when you are still hunting. If you are hunting from a stand you could take off the quiver and hang or stand it up out of the way.

Oh another thing I meant to mention was it is perfect from the standpoint of reaching the arrows. It doesn't seem like I have to use my left hand to bump the bottom and can just reach over my shoulder and get an arrow. I think that means the straps are positioned just right and the tube size is not too big to allow the arrows to get back too far. I really think you need to keep this design and not change it up too much. Now if the weather would just straighten out so I can get out and shoot with it own. Might have to ride over the Santa Fe Archery and shoot inside sometime this weekend.

Thanks guys. The only one that I really see do this is Marty on all of his videos. His arrows always seem to be spaced out in his quiver when he is walking around. I am still trying to figure out what quiver I will use if I ever hunt with my recurve. I have a cat quiver right now, but want to way my options. Bob

Bob I've used a Selway on my longbow for years and I put a cheap detactable on my recurve. The Selway worked good for the most part but you had to be careful when getting ready to draw because the arrow do stick out from the bow some. That hunt the first of last month I think it might have been my arrows and not my bow that hit the branch when I went to draw. Besides I seem to shot both my bows better without the quivers attached to them, even though I practice with quivers and arrows in them. I guess I practice more with a bare bow though.

I have been looking at thunderhorn boa quiver right now. Just do not want to pay new quiver prices on something I might now want later on. Bob

That is the quiver I was going to get but got a deal on the Selway on ebay for about a third the cost. The problem with most quivers like these is they are on the bow and not easy to take off and put out of the way.
