recurve or longbow?

If I wanted to take a step back away from the Compound, what are the pros and cons between a recurve compared with a longbow?

JvT, I am no way an expert on this, but this is what I found out after I started shooting this past year. A longbow is a little more difficult to shoot, you get more hand shock out of it then a recurve. A recurve is easlier to shoot. I love shooting both my bows, but really shoot the recurve a lot better. Bob

Thanks Bob,
I appreciate the response.

JvT, I really thought that Buff, Chunky and a few others would have chimed in on this. They know more about this that I ever will know. Bob

Bob is right, a recurve is much more forgiving than a long bow. I shoot both but would recommend you start with a recurve. Also start out with carbon arrows with 4.5 to 5.5 inch feathers on your arrows.

Also check out the link to a thread I started on a backup bow I recently got. It is a great bow and it won't break the bank. In other words if it turns out you don't like shooting traditional, you aren't out a lot of money.

Thanks, I might give that a try. Note I have been bowhunting almost 30 years. This is a move I should have taken long ago.

JvT, I love shooting my longbow and recurve, but I still have not taken either one of them out to hunt. I might do it if I can get a trip down south to hunt javelina and hogs. It would be a blast with them on a spot and stalk hunt. Keep us posted on what you get. Bob

Like Bob said keep us posted and also let us know if there are any other question you might have.
