Archery Season

The Outdoorsman in San Angelo is advertising on the radio for "life-long rifle hunters" to buy a crossbow so they can hunt this October 3rd. No mention of the responsibility toward proficiency, just run out, buy a crossbow and give bowhunting a try. Today, 23 SEPTEMBER, is the first I've heard the ad. Less than two weeks before the opener.

...so, it begins.

If I could figure out how to word it civilly, I'd run my own PSA on the radio in rebuttal. This is just so irresponsible of them.

Losthawg, like all new things, this will come and go, and only the crossbow companies will win. They are selling crossbows in Texas like hotcakes, and from what I have heard, a lot are being taken back because that are having problems. Bob

I agree Bob, I just don't like the fact that this is going to give seasoned, practiced, responsible bowhunters such a black eye. These people will show up with a sited in apparatus that they do NOT know the functionality of. They'll chunk and "twang" and darts'll be stuck in everything and folks'll see it. They'll see it and say, "those bowhunters......."

Well, all I can do is complain. I can't act on much of any of it. If you haven't noticed, I've been kinda mute about things lately...

Tracy, we are so close on this subject we could be twins. I have no objections for those with disabilities using them to enjoy the outdoors and feel those hunter’s will use them more responsibly then the “New age crossbow hunters”
I fear that until the public is educated on the difference between a bolt and an arrow or a loaded cross gun vs. a compound/trad bow….. That the bow hunters will be the one’s carrying the blunt of the negativity for increased hunter injuries and wounded lost game during the old school archery season. I hope I am wrong.

BOBSTER 09-25-2009 08:54 PM

Tracy and Spur, I do feel the same that bowhunters will get the blame. I really wish they would have put them in a class on their own, and counted seperate from the bowhunters. Bob

I've heard it a couple of times this week as well Tracy......our thoughts are the same. The almighty dollar wins again.....
