Youth Hunt Comments
 

I had read that Parks and Wildlife had received 1625 comments on the proposed youth rifle hunts during archery season. Of those 54% were in opposition and supposedly 46% were in favor. I was somewhat surprised that it was that close and so asked Parks and Wildlife about it. They sent me a reply along with all the comments people had written.

What I found most interesting was that of the people who had bothered to write explaining their reasons for or against the issue only 90 people who wrote a comment were in favor while 678 people wrote comments in disagreement. Basically this means that 87% of the comments were opposed and only 13% were in favor. I feel that the 54/46% might be misleading as many people who went through the whole list might not have a real view on this, but simply voted "youth" as they went down the list. I think the 87% opposed (based on written comments) more accurately reflects the picture.

You might want to check out a local meeting in your area and go by and add to your comments. We have not won on this issue until after the April Commissioners meeting and the final vote.

Excellent info Tomme. I believe the next meeting is either accept or decline the recommendation. I don't believe it can be modified after it is published in the Register so either way the Special Archery Season is safe. That being said we need to show up at the meetings to support the proposals as written except the Alligator Gar limit.
