Hog hunt Sunday morning
 

Steve, Mike, Phil and I booked a hunt with 2 B Hunting in Avery Texas. We got up early Sunday morning and headed out 82 East past Paris and Clarksville. We got the ranch by 5:45AM and found Brian the owner waiting outside for us. After a quick meet and greet we loaded up our gear for a short ride to the ranch. At this point, I realized I did not have my camera and could not get a GB picture. Oh well there is always the next hunt J

As we approached the first stand we saw several pigs underneath the feeder. This was a rifle stand and Phil was designated to this stand. Phil has a broken leg from playing hockey and this stand was perfect for him. We left Phil with high hope that the pigs would come back after we left. Well we were 200 yards away when the crack of Phil

Well, I'll keep mine short since Timm did such a great job covering the highlights.

As Timm said the first shot was a real suprise to us all. As we were driving off and Phil's shot rang out we all had high hopes. After we dropped Timm off I was next. As Brian drove off I settled in to the stand. The hogs are accustomed to his truck and came in to inspect the feeder after he drove off. In this group there were about 15 little hogs. Some were pocket size with the largest being about 20lbs. I let them pass and the left shortly after realizing there was no corn on the ground.

When the feeder went off I could hear hogs moving. Unfortanetly they were on the down wind side of me and none came to the stand for quite some time. As I could hear Brian picking Timm up I also heard hogs coming in. It was another group of small hogs. Timm and Brian came up to get me and the hogs finally ran off. Brian felt bad that I had not had a shot. He took Timm and I to another stand that had not been hunted that morning. He tripped the feeder and we waited about 2 minutes. The baby hogs were the first to show and I was set to pass again. Then another hog showed up. Of course he was another 20-25lber. I took the shot with Timm and Brian watching from behind me. I hit a little far back but got the liver. It was about a 25yd shot.

After we took all the hogs back the cleaning shack Brian offered to take us back out. First we dropped Mike off on one side of the property with his rifle. Then Brian took me to a creek crossing that lead up to some wind rowed trees. Phil, being on the disabled list was going to stay in the truck with Brian. After about 5yds of walking I spooked the first group of hogs. This happended twice before I made it to the piled up trees. Finally I spotted a group of hogs feeding in the brush. They had not seen me yet so the sneak was on. I managed to get to about 20yds and a decent sized hog stepped out. I hit him just a little higher than I wanted but it was in the lungs. This hog went about 30-40yds and piled up. My second hog weighed in at about 60lbs (my guess?). Brian and Phil showed up and we loaded my hog, picked Mike up and headed to the cleaning rack.

Timms hogs were a bit larger than mine but I had to work for mine! :wink: I had a great time and would recommend this ranch for anyone wanting to do a good meat hunt.

I know I'll catch flack for the but here goes.
On this hunt I was using my new compound. It is a Diamond Archery "Machete". 63lbs@27". I was shooting Black Hawk carbon wood arrows with 125gr Montec G5's. On both hogs the arrow blew through and made great holes.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D

I bet Timm and I could make a story out of this! :wink:

I bet we could! Like Bigfoot was seen eating a pig whole near the fence line. :shock:

Okay, Guys :roll: For a magazine article, there has to be at least a touch of truth to the story :lol: :lol: With that said, write on, all the tales, no matter how tall, will be worth reading. :P All kidding aside, sounds like you had a great hunt and even more fun just being there.
