Rattled up a nice 10 pt

(Mods, I hope this is ok to post here, I wasn't sure which place to post it)

Got to spend a couple of days at Bowhunters Paradise last week and the whitetails are already sparring and chasing does!

I was sitting behind some bushes watching some little bucks chase a couple of old does around and around for about an hour. Two of them started fighting a bit so I decided to get the rattle bag out of my pack and tickled it a time or two. I saw a pretty nice 8 pt come out along the fenceline and he was walking my way...

Then from behind him came a nice 10 pt with an awesome set of browtines.....this deer wasn't all that wide, but my hunting time was limited so I decided if he offered me a shot I would take it.

I realized that he was coming straight towards my position behind these little bushes and here I was sitting in my collapsible WalMart chair and there was no way I was going to be able to draw my bow without him seeing it. At about 35 yards he walked behind some trees so I eased out of my chair and got onto my knees, drew my Vectrix and waited....and waited....for what seemed like hours, but was probably only 20 or 30 seconds :) he was still coming head on towards me and I still didn't have a shot. FINALLY, he turned just enough that I was able to get a decent quartering towards/almost broadside shot at about 12 yards.... he went about 30 yards after the shot, stood still for a minute, then kinda staggered another 5 or 10 yards and laid down under a tree....and was down.....

Don't know what he scored, will probalby be 130+ and he weighed 195 pounds and they aged him at 5 1/2 yrs old.

It was a great hunt with a great bunch of guys from Hawaii and Iowa that I had never met before except online. Jim from BP is a great host and guide and I sure hope to get back there sometime to chase an axis or red stag!

Here are the other fellars..

Folks, let me introduce y'all to my good friend Danny. I keep trying to get him to tell me his secrets, but he just smiles and says, "they're secrets for a reason". :D

Welcome to the campfire Danny.

*I put a copy of this in the "Hunting Stories" forum. ;)

Welcome to the site and congrats on a great deer. Enjoyed the write up. I have had zero luck this year with rattling. And I've been doing it on nearly every hunt too. Started early in the season.

Yep, he was a long way off when he first showed up coming my way and that was all I could see in my binocs was those brow tines!!!

Of course, he coulda been a spike as far as I was concerned. To be lucky enough to have an experience like that taking a deer from the ground with no blind and watching him come in to rattling like he was on a line was something I will never forget!
