Grunts and Gobbles III Spring Fellowship Hunt

Well it's that time of year to start thinking about heading south to Brush Hills for the Third Annual Grunts and Gobbles Hunt I'm officially opening the books for deposits. For those of you who haven't ever been here are some details.

WHAT: LSBA Spring Fellowship Combo hunt for Hogs and Turkey.

WHERE: Brushy Hill Ranch located five miles south of Sabinal. This is a 13,000 acre low fenced ranch. The last two years we have had the whole ranch. In order to prevent crowding we will limit the hunt to the first 55-60 paid deposits.

WHEN: Friday noon April 7-noon April 9th. Night hunting is allowed.

COST: $125 Total for the two day hunt (i.e., $62.50 per day). KIDS HUNT FREE, but there is a $25 charge if they stay in the bunkhouse. Souveneir T-shirts are available for $15. These must be pre-ordered.

Bag Limit - I'm still checking, but pretty sure it's the same as last year which was unlimited hogs and as many turkey as you have tags. (Note it's not as easy as that sounds).

As on all LSBA hunts we will draw for hunting areas, so late arrivals still have a chance. Also since no one has won the Concrete Pig we will be shooting for that again.

Please send your deposit of $62.50 to

What are the odds of getting a turkey? Hogs? I didn't see either at our last hunt.

Can we still PayPal our deposits?

Ronny 02-07-2006 06:31 PM

The group that goes with me always gets something. We have taken both turkey and lots of hogs. Last year we had a 12 year old get a turkey. So I would say your chances are very good.

Tomme 02-08-2006 03:27 PM

Not to make excuses for January, but I've taken something like seven hogs off of the place and like you didn't see any pork to poke on our hunt. Don't know if it was the dry conditions or maybe it was the end of hunting season.

Last year on the April hunt I hunted with a recurve to try to win the concrete pig trophy. I missed two big hogs, one on each night. Now I was hunting hard under the full moon and had one shot as late as 9:15 PM so I'm not saying that it's easy, but on the Spring hunt I've found that the pigs are going to hit all of the feeders sometime during the night and also clean up the feed route. I think it's better to hunt real late and maybe forget the mornings. Course if you want a turkey, then morning is the time to go. Anyway I did see game and had some shots last spring. Good fellowship too even if I did come up baconless.

There are a lot of turkey on the place if you're good with a call. Also, the hogs will have had a chance to get over deer season.

In answer to the other question, yes you can pay with PayPal.

Sounds good. If I can get my schedule cleared, I will certainly try to make it.

BTW, I haven't seen my renewal notice. I think my membership might have expired.

One of my best memories last year was my son jon putting a stalk on a hog at 2 AM under the full moon. I held those binoculars on him so long my arms ached. Looked like he was right on top of that big boar, but he says that he was about 20 yards short. No bacon, but he got a shot and boy was it fun.

The committee has voted, and I lost!!!! The date has been set for our Fishin' for a Cure bass tournament, and you guessed it..... it is set for April 8th!

I guess I'll have to wait until next time to get together with you guys.

Y'all stick some pigs for me :D

Graybow 02-25-2006 01:06 PM

ARe there still any spots open? Thinking I might can make it.

bowjunkie 02-25-2006 01:26 PM

Lots of openings still left.

Graybow 02-25-2006 06:33 PM

Great! My son has to check his baseball schedule, Monday. I think they will be thru by then. If they are, look out here we come! I shoot a recurve, so the "Pig" is in trouble!! lol

Tomme 02-27-2006 09:35 PM

That's what you say Graybow. Seems like the trad folks get all the shots, now making one? Lest you think I'm making fun of others, I missed twice last year. Of course you might also talk to Chunky, LostHawg, and Steve as well?

Guess I'll put my money in the pot again this year. Even if I don't win, it's for a good cause. LSBA is getting rich off of this contest. That cursed pig is going to go down sooner or later though.

By the way, I am starting to pull in some deposits, but we still have lots of room as of today. Now tomorrow?

LostHawg 02-28-2006 02:45 PM

So, how ya doin, MISSEDer Actkinson?

I hope you guys break the spell this time around. I'll be hunting over near Freer the weekend before, so won't make it this time. Maybe I'll have a story for the mag when I get home.

Enjoy.

Graybow 02-28-2006 07:58 PM

Hey Tomme!

I never miss! Just sometimes the animal wasn't where my arrow went!! lol Got my son's baseball schedule (finally), looks like we are open for that weekend!! So looks like we can make it. Gonna be good to meet you guy's and gals.

Gonna make a run for that "pig."

Tomme 03-01-2006 11:12 PM

I understand you Graybow. Actually I don't ever miss either, but sometimes.... I decide that I don't want that particular animal. It may be too big, or too small for what I want on that particular hunt. When that happens I usually fire a WARNING SHOT in the animals vicinity to let him know I'm there. It usually seems to work and they run off. Last year I fired two warning shots on the spring hunt....

Tomme 03-13-2006 10:37 AM

Guys it looks like it will be a smaller hunt than usual. So far I only have 10 signed up. Probably be a lot of fun with a lot of room and we might only be in one or two bunkhouses. I know some of you are last minute types, but if you're coming you might want to let me know something soon. Pete doesn't require a minimum, but he's reserved the whole ranch for us. To be fair to him I'll give him back a pasture or two if we aren't going to need them. So let me know.

Thanks,

Tomme

bowjunkie 03-13-2006 12:23 PM

There will be some more sign ups headed your way Tomme. Spoke to about 10+ folks at Bownanza that said they were going to come.

Graybow 03-14-2006 01:50 PM

Tomme,

Since you have moved, where do we need to send the deposit?

Chunky 03-15-2006 03:34 PM

Deposit send for the Chunkyboy. I will be bringing my two daughters also.

We ordered t-shirts, if it is not too late for that.

biggen 03-15-2006 05:53 PM

Mark and anybody else going you can order T-shirts up until March 29th!

LostHawg 03-16-2006 07:35 AM

Would someone win the dadblamed pig already!!!

Graybow 03-16-2006 02:40 PM

OK Check is in the mail! (No really it is. lol) What do we need to bring. Corn? Stands? I have a double bull blind that I'm bringing for sure.
Are 4 wheelers aloud? I'm not real into them, but they are handy sometimes.
