Volunteers Needed for TTHA Houston

The LSBA is in need of volunteers for:

Friday July 31 from 3:00pm - 9:00pm
Saturday Aug 1 from 9:00am - 7:00pm
Sunday Aug 2 from 10:00 - 5:00pm

We will be having our youth archery range, as well as helping out with BowMasters of AK 3 - D Pop Up shoot. Anyone that volunteers for the whole day will get reimbursed for their parking and will recieve a day pass to get into the show. Hopefully we can get enough help that everyone can have a chance to shoot the pop up, and take a couple hours to view the exibits. Also, every volunteer will recieve the new volunteer buck for each hour that you volunteer. You will be able to use the volunteer buck to purchase merchandise, pay for LSBA fellowship hunts, memberships and 3-D tournament fees. Please contact myself either by PM or call me at 409-739-1532, or Dena at 409-739-2630.

BOBSTER 07-27-2009 08:41 PM

We still need many volunteers for all three days. So far, I only have three of us on Sunday, that would be Brandon E., Dena K. and Bobby K.. We cannot do this alone. Please come out and help a young person shoot a bow. Bob

bountyhunter 07-28-2009 07:20 AM

Bob, I can switch Saturday to Sunday if that helps out any. Let me know, I just can't do all three days as my Honey-Do list needs to be worked on if I'm going to be in a tree opening morning.....;)

BOBSTER 07-28-2009 07:59 AM

Bountyhunter, I will leave that up to you on which day you would like to help. It is not that we have a lot of help on Sat., it is that we do have some help. I am hoping that we will pick up a couple more helpers on Sunday when they have to come back to do the shoot off at the 3-D shoot. Bob

Chunky 07-28-2009 04:01 PM

Don't count on me, but I will see if I can call in a favor. Friday would be my best chance if I can get an earlier shift.

BOBSTER 07-28-2009 10:01 PM

Come on Chunky, You can do it. Mark, hope that you can work it into your work. Bountyhunter, we will see you Friday and Saturday. You will be racking up the volunteer bucks by working two days. Just what will you use them for? :think:Bob

Target-panic 07-29-2009 12:56 PM

Saturday, I will be working Ozonics from 2 - 7. I can be available before that.

BOBSTER 07-29-2009 01:20 PM

Russell, Thanks, that will be great. Come by at anytime you can on both days. That will give someone a break to make the rounds and/or go and shoot the 3-D pop up. Bob

bustedassranch 07-30-2009 11:25 AM

I really wanted to make this one..Sorry. Hope yall get plenty of help.

Chunky 07-30-2009 04:39 PM

Bobster,

Okay, here is the deally-O. I have my shift changed to an 8am to 4pm. I should be able to get out of here and get down there by around 4:30...give or take a couple.

I am planning on bringing Kelby to help as well, as she is really good with younger kids. I am at work now, and because of the bad weather, I may not get a chance to call you.

This could change if we have some kind of disaster tomorrow...but that is my plan. If you can help with a pass or parking great, but if not....we will come anyway.

Please leave me a message here or on my cell....832-260-1326.

I will not be able to help Sat or Sun. Sorry.

Mark

BOBSTER 07-30-2009 09:53 PM

Mark, that is good to hear. I am sure we will be able reimburse the parking for sure, will have to see how many passes I am able to get. Give me a call when you start pulling up into the parking. 409-739-1532. and I will know on the pass by then. Bob

BOBSTER 07-31-2009 11:02 PM

One day down, two more to go. A BIG THANKS to Mr. Monaghan, bountyhunter, Chunky and his daughter Kelby, Target-panic and of course Dena and myself for volunteering today. A little approximately 175 kids got to shoot bows today. Hope to have pics of tomorrows event. Bob

bustedassranch 07-31-2009 11:25 PM

Sweet..Way to go!!!

wiki 08-01-2009 05:31 PM

Just wanted say job well done guys. Bob I beleive it was you that helped my four yr old shoot. He walked around the rest of the time we were there looking at bows. All the way home to Brenham showing me and his Mom how to draw. Looks like I am buying him a little bow for Christmas. Sorry I do not log on here often to see this post I would have helped today. Church tomorrow keeps me busy on Sundays. Thanks again the couple minutes was a huge deal to him. To be able to do something he sees me doing made him feel big. God Bless!!!

Ronny 08-01-2009 07:09 PM

GREAT job guys and gals. We had a good shoot in Ft. Worth today also.

bountyhunter 08-01-2009 10:12 PM

Well I've had a blast the last two days. Not sure the numbers for today but it was pretty much non-stop from 9AM till 6:30. The ole knees are paying for it but was worth all the aches to see the smile on those kids faces. It was also really nice to finally meet and shoot with some good folks face-to-face. Count on my help in the future!

I keep meaning to take my knee pads..or at least one.... Good job folks!!

Day two down. One more to go. I really have to say that we could not have been able to do this without bountyhunter and DrenalinJunkie. They stayed with the kids non stop. Would also like to thank Mrs DrenalinJunkie and their girls for helping out. Brandon and Dena were helping down at the 3-D Pop ups which was non stop action as well. I could not tell you how many kids went through today. I have to apoligize that I forgot my camera, so there are no pics. If you think it did not happen because there are no pics, I dare you to come out next year and help. Wiki, I remember your youngster. I remember his big smile after shooting. I don't think you need to wait for Christmas for the bow, go ahead and get it now, and he can shoot with you while you are getting ready for October. A BIG THANKS TO THOSE THAT CAME OUT AND HELPED. The kids really appreciated you. Bob

biggen 08-01-2009 11:48 PM

Awesome!! The few aches go away but the smiles stay forever!!

Well the day is gone, and the show is finally over :(. We had a little over 1000 kids shoot a bow this weekend. Some of them for the first time ever, some that could shoot better than me , some big, some small. If we had bows to sell, I am sure there would be some happy parents, and some not so happy parents. Hopefully we will have many new bowhunters or at least archers out there. The Pop Up went real well and was a blast as usual. It was not for the weak at heart. The targets were from 20 out to 35 yards at less than ten seconds per animal. I would like to give a BIG THANKS to Eddie Tanuz and his son Steven that stayed with the kids all day today. We would not have been able to keep the youth range open if they were not there. Along with Eddie and Steven, there was Brandon and Jackie and Dena and me. I did bring the camera today, and nearly forgot to get pics. I did not get any of the pop up, but did get some of at the youth range. Sorry to everyone else that help the first two days that I did not have my camera. Here are a few pics from today. Bob

biggen 08-02-2009 10:11 PM

Thanks Eddie and Steven!! Bob we got to work on the camera skills!! ;) :) Thanks to all that helped put a bow in a kids hand!!

BOBSTER 08-02-2009 10:22 PM

No kiddin, I just noticed that I had some fuzzy pics. I am going to blame it on a low battery. Bob

Here is a Pic of my very happy 4 yr old

BOBSTER 08-03-2009 09:49 AM

Wiki, thanks for posting it. I really wish I would have had my camera the first two days. Bob

bountyhunter 08-03-2009 10:36 AM

Glad y'all had another good day. You are right, about selling bows. If there had been an archery shop next to us with a bunch of kids bows they would have had to been giving us a commission on sales. Sure hope a lot of those kids will be getting bows and become archers and/or bowhunters. ;)

Bullrdr82 08-03-2009 12:53 PM

Thanks again to Forrest (DrenlinJunkie), Donna (MommaD), and Derrick (bountyhunter), Steven and Eddie for all your hard work in helping LSBA put this thing on. Until you show up and help you dont really know what it takes.

I am proud to be a member of this organization.

Target-panic 08-03-2009 01:21 PM

Thanks to those that helped out. The short time I spent in the booth on Friday, gave me some lasting memories for sure. Some that were not smiling on the way in, had some big ole grins on the way out. A few of those little rascals can shoot. I had a good time working with all of the kids and the volunteers. See yall in Ft Worth.

Hot4huntin 08-03-2009 02:10 PM

BIG THANKS to all who helped out at the event...

Forrest, Donna and their daughter & her friend,
Mark and Kelby,
Derrick,
Russell,
Eddie & Steven,
Brandon and Jackie, and
Bobby

You all helped make the Youth Archery Booth at the TTHA show a success!! It is a lot of work and some sore muscles, but it is all worth it to see the smiles on the kids faces.

Bobby did a great job in signing up members and I appreciate Donna sitting and helping with the merchandise!

We also had to provide help at the Pop-up 3-D shoot, so we were a little stretched at times.

Lots of parents were asking about purchasing bows for their little ones, so that is a great sign for the future of archery! Hopefully, they will follow through with it.

bountyhunter 08-03-2009 07:34 PM

Oh, by the way thanks Bobby and Dena for getting me hooked on that dang 3D shooting. I've gone and ordered all the stuff to build a set of arrows just to shoot 3D, so I can save my pretty ones. The one's I used Saturday were build for my compound and spined too stiff. It was really fun, so I'm not complaining too hard, though my wife might when she sees how much money I spent....:D

bustedassranch 08-03-2009 08:16 PM

 Thanks to all that helped out!!!

You would not believe how many kids I saw go by that were pulling and clawing at their parents to bring them over so that they could shoot a bow. Bountyhunter, wish you could have been there on Sunday for the shoot off. We had a couple more trad guys show up. I have to say that Brandon can shoot his longbow. He won first, me second, and Dena third. I was shooting against Brandon for first place, and we were shooting very close until he bounced a arrow off the back of the bear and I was laughing at him and doing everything but kicking him, and then he started hitting twelve rings after that. It all was a lot of fun. Thanks again to everyone that stepped up and helped. We really could not have done it with out you. Bob

Hot4huntin 08-03-2009 11:41 PM

I almost cried when Derek broke his arrow. His arrows are Masterpieces, not your typical arrows which are used at 3-D events. He makes his own arrows and they are works of art. Truly art to be admired. He has amazing skillz!

Hope you are able to come out to our Pop-up 3-D Shoot on Aug. 23rd at BPS in Katy. We would love to have you come out and shoot! It is addictive. Bobby and I never shot 3-D much until we started shooting trad about 2 months ago.

At the TTHA Pop-up, we had a couple of qualifiers on Sunday. Robert and Lowell shot against each other. I had to shoot against Bobby. I've never been nervous shooting trad at a shoot, but I sure was at this one. It wasn't Trad friendly to begin with; shots were 20-35. Then for finals Jerry changed it and moved it in some. Bobby beat me by 2 points. Robert and Brandon shot against each other and I guess Brandon got warmed up!! Bobby and Brandon them shot for 1st and 2nd. After Brandon skipped an arrow off the bears back; he got serious and slammed 12s on the last 4 targets. Brandon won 1st, Bob 2nd and I got 3rd.

I really felt bad that I was not able to help out at the kids' shoot on Friday and Saturday. I had 2 root canals earlier in the week and was still feeling the effects. No way I could have done the bending and stooping that goes along with it and no way I could have spoken to the general public about LSBA or anything else as far as that goes. I finally started feeling better on Saturday evening and by Sunday morning, I was almost back to myself. I truly appreciate the volunteers that helped out during that time. I missed the kiddos' smiles while adding scores at the Pop-up Shoot.

Curtis 08-04-2009 01:06 PM

Thank you guys for letting my kids come thru there so much. They had a GREAT time. It was good to see everyone again.

bountyhunter 08-04-2009 05:20 PM

Guess I should have asked if there was going to be a shoot off on Sunday. That would have given me a good excuse to come down there. Count on me being at BPS for the next one, I might even get a little practicing in before hand.

Dena thanks for the compliment on my arrows. It is hard to see one get broke, but I knew the risk and won't use any of those again for that kind of shooting. Hopefully the next one that gets broke will be from shooting a good deer.
