Great Times at G & G Hunt

Been trying to catch up since I got home this afternoon, but needed to post and let everyone know what a great time we all had.

The turkey didn't cooperate this year, but all told six hogs were arrowed and several other people had shots.

Me I never pulled a bow, but did get to within 12 yards on a stalk of a bunch under a feeder. Just couldn't get a clear shot. Later on while sitting my tripod as the sun was going down, I heard crunch, crunch coming up the road like it was a big boar, slowly making it's way toward my set up. I also noted that I was getting cold, and it was on my right side. This would indicate that the wind had shifted and was blowing toward the road. GROWL, and the sound of breaking brush indicated that the big boar noticed that fact as well. Busted again.

Oh well, at least I wasn't alone. Jack Frost told me he had cows among his turkey decoys and figured no gobblers would go to that so he went out to pull them. Up the road a gobbler was coming in at full trot. At least he was coming in till he saw Jack among those decoys.

High hog honors go to Joshua Pawlik who harvested two pigs and Robert Jones won the balloon shoot with a record setting shot of 69 yards. Thank goodness someone won it. We started shooting at 160 yards and I had fired a bunch of arrows and must have walked 10 miles before Scott popped that two inch balloon.

Finally, the Curse of the Concrete Pig continues. While Joel McMurty took a hog using trad gear, he wasn't in the contest, so anyone wanting to see "the pig" can still check it out on Rusty's porch at Brushy Hill.

Great hunt people, Jon and I really enjoyed it.

PS - I have pictures, but will have to forward them to Brad to post.

Nice shot Bobby. As always had a great time with old friends and some new ones as well.
That might have been the best ballon shoot yet, I mean there was more BS than you could shake a stick at, all in fun.
Also Brad Adams MISSED a hog at 5 YARDS
Looking forward to next time

Sounds like a great time. Attaboys to all that make it happen. ...........Poor Brad:booboo: not missing, it happens but letting someone know you did it.

LostHawg 04-21-2008 08:10 AM

Aw, Brad was just giving you guys a chance. You're only making fun of him to cover your own insecurities...

(How's that Brad? :cheese:)

biggen 04-21-2008 08:55 AM

It was a great hunt and yes I did miss. Thanks Lost, I got your back!! Buff at least I didn't let somebody video my miss!:err: The weather couldn't have been better but the wind was kinda tricky Friday night!! Once Tomme gets his rest (He's old) he will send me some pics to post up!! There is one pic that RNS has that probably shouldn't be shown on a family site!!:banned:It was great seeing all the kids set out with bows in hand to scare the heck out of some rabbits!! I met some new friends and some old! I look forward to next year and a BIG THANKS :dancing: to BRUSHY HILLS and Pete for supporting the LSBA!

DoubleJ 04-21-2008 10:00 AM

Sounds like it was yet another success for the Hunt Committee and a lot of fun. Good job!

boatbigfish 04-21-2008 12:31 PM

grunts and gobbles.

Any day in the field is a good one .All you guys were great company, and yes there was morebs than you could shake a stick at but that was the fun part.Every body came together to laugh and had a great time.Oh Brad don't feel bad I shot a hog and nathan shot the same hog twice more and we still did not recover the super hog.It is better to have missed than hit and not recovered.I met alot of new friends this weekend and that is what I cherished about the whole hunt.Yall are all realy great people to be around.By the way my ribs still hurt from laughing so much saturday night.Man there was some stories.

Tomme 04-21-2008 08:23 PM

I sent you and Roger the pictures last night. Get with the job.

Tomme 04-21-2008 08:33 PM

Rats, I just checked and it looks like I may have computer issues. AAAARGGH, the stress is too much. I need another hunt to soothe my nerves.

LostHawg 04-22-2008 06:31 AM

I don't intend to miss any more G&Gs.

Here is what happens when you order your t-shirts late:err:!! Or you shoot a Bowtech :) !

BOBSTER 04-22-2008 08:26 PM

Sounds like yall had a great time even though the turkeys did not show up. The one pic looked like an old movie when the archers were shooting at the approaching army. Bob

Ronny 04-22-2008 08:55 PM

I'll bet Danny gets his money in early next year. LMAO
And Brad I'll fix your stands in Nebraska :naughty:

Bullrdr82 04-22-2008 09:20 PM

Sorry I missed this one, but I had a memorial golf tournament for my dad this time.

Looks like yall had a great time.

Hopefully I can make it next year.

dhoneycutt 04-23-2008 10:11 AM

YES. THE MONEY WILL BE IN EARLY. As a matter of fact if its already set for next year I think I will just send it this week.
If thats what I have to wear to shoot a BOWTECH. Bring it on.
I am 100% sure my Bowtech has never missed at 5 yards and I have never had to walk more than 30 yards to find its Trophy. I hope I didnt offend any body but if I did too bad.

Chunky 04-23-2008 11:04 AM

Wow, looks like you guys had a great time as always.

Brad gave up trad because he couldn't hit anything...hummmmmm

What about rns, did he get one of those hogs that were killed?

I see the tradition of the G&G parting solute was in full form.

Next year I am coming back after the concrete pig!

Sean 04-23-2008 11:26 AM

Looks like a great time. Congrats to everyone.

LostHawg 04-23-2008 01:33 PM

You need to Mark. You're the one that put it on us. :D

But, I'll be there to make you work for it. ;)

I am surprised Ronny didn't take another turkey. He's usually a pretty safe bet as to whether or not he'll take meat home.

Ronny 04-23-2008 08:31 PM

I did see some hogs, but no shoot. :boohoo:I called in 6 birds, and ever one of them hung up on a dang fence.:hammerhead: I could see but no shoot. I'll get them next year.;)

Tomme 04-24-2008 11:53 PM

Honeycutt has to be the best sport in the world, to actually put on that shirt and let us snap five or six pictures.

I may have to go with more than one pin for the balloon shoot. Either that or go back to trad gear.

Chunky you don't stand a chance on the concrete pig. Haven't you heard that there's a curse on it?

Tomme, it's only because you won't commit yourself that the curse persists. :D

...Whether to an institution or traditional archery, I'll leave up to you to decide. :err:

Horitexan 04-25-2008 10:59 AM

I really enjoyed meeting everyone this weekend- I wish I'd have had more time to participate! I gotta say, I've never seen a better large group of hunters at Brushy Hill- usually a large group means lots of griping and bitching, bit everyone seemed to have a good time and to be happy! Kudos to everyone who attended and, especially, to the organizers!

I was especially impressed with the pit blind that Brad dug! Lemme tell ya folks, digging a 4 foot deep hole with a seat in it at Brushy Hill is no small feat- especially by hand! Rusty and I have been talking about it for years, but we've never had the motivation! If Brad will just move that top pin up, or practice more at 5 YARDS, he'd be slayin' swine!

Someone gave Rusty some wooden game calls and he gave me the predator call- MAN, is that a awesome game call! Does anyone know who made them? I'd like get his contact info so I can buy a few more.

Thanks for such a great weekend y'all! Rusty asked me to tell you the same.

Nick

LostHawg 04-25-2008 11:03 AM

We've always had a large crowd at the G&G and I've never seen any personal problems try to ruin it. I guess that's one of the big differences between hunting and 3D. :D

I mean, last year, they even let ME poke fun at my friend Tomme during the balloon shoot. BTW, I think he needs at least 10 pins on his bow. And maybe someone to shoot it for him. :D

Ronny 04-25-2008 02:29 PM

Hey Nick, Jeff Sanderson made the calls. He"ll be at the Outdoor Expo in June. I think he goes by Medic911 on this site, you could PM him.
Ronny

medic911 04-26-2008 07:12 PM

Thanks Ronny, Yes its me. I gave him one Sat night then left him an open reed and a crow call Sun. Plans are to be at the Expo in June......Thats if I can pull some shop time between now and then.

Jeff

timhicks 04-27-2008 02:03 PM

maybe next year I can do this hunt..Congrats on the good times and great shooting

Tomme 04-27-2008 09:42 PM

Tracy I don't need more than one pin. In fact I'll probably shoot my recurve next year just to show you and Chunky how it's done.

Jeff, I'd like to buy one of your predator calls. That is if you give a senior citizen, cheapskate discount. I should be through Cumby in mid-October or you could ship it down with Ronny in June at the banquet.

boatbigfish 04-28-2008 08:03 AM

I would like to buy a predator call also. Can you send me some info to boat_bigfish@yahoo.com please sir?
