All help appreciated!

I'd recommend getting a serviceable used recurve of low draw weight to get the feel with. Don't invest a lot so that when you start setting up to hunt, you won't be out much in the upgrade.

Go careful on the draw weight. If you're form isn't within the right parameters, you can hurt yourself. ;)

Thanks for the advice LostHawg. I've got a Samick Sage on the way. Good advice on the draw weight....I plan on starting slow and pacing myself. I had rotator cuff surgery last May on my right shoulder and am just now free from any discomfort from it. I shot my compound bow a lot from August to the present....but still going to be cautious.

How long you been in San Angelo? I was born and raised there....SACHS and ASU then Uncle Sam got me.

Chunky thanks for the advice. I'm shooting Zwickey and Zwickey Eskimos and the one hog I shot with a 50# bow it was a pass through. Just wasn't sure about 36#.

As for numbers of bow, I used to have about 10 myself, but I recently sold three to the Stricklands. Could rns actually show up to the Grunts and Gobbles shooting trad? Even more incredible, would he dare do it if there were a Gobbler in the area.

You are hearing from the LSBA trad gurus here. I just went back to trad this past season and have loved it. But WARNING!!!! Like Chunky says trad bows are addictive. I started with a 49# Bob Lee Takedown Recurve(I shot my first trad buck with it this year) then added a Sarrel 50# takedown longbow, a 69# Bob Lee takedown recurve, and have a Palmer 55# takedown recurve on order. I won't give up the wheel bows completely but trad has certainly brought back the real challenge of bowhunting to me.

You hit the nail on the head with the word "challenge". It's why I went from strictly gun hunting to hunting with a compound. It's the challenge that's drawing me to the recurve. One of my proudest moments was when I shot my first archery buck....with the help of the wheels. I expect it will be another proud moment if I take one with a trad bow. Rubbing elbows with those salty trad shooters down at Elm Creek helped stimulate my interest, also.
KUDOS on the well run forum!

It's like Christmas all over again! The UPS guy just delivered my new recurve....a Samick Sage. The archery world will never be the same!

In golf you yell "fore!" What do you yell when you start shooting your first trad bow? :D

Not to take anything away from our great dealers we have on the LSBA, but I saw a Bob Lee takedown recurve on ebay that had a buy it now for $300. I know nothing about the seller or the bow, but it looked nice and would be a good deal for a first timer. It could have sold by now also. Just passing on info. Bob
